Agu Resigns as Volleyball Head Coach

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island women's volleyball head coach Angel Agu will resign from the position to accept a coaching position with another program, it was announced Thursday.

Rhode Island's head coach for the last three seasons, Agu spent four seasons total at Rhode Island. She spent the 2020 season as an assistant coach and was promoted to head coach in July of 2021.

"I truly appreciate the energy and passion that Angel brought to Rhode Island over the last four years," Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said. "She took on a very difficult challenge when she was elevated from assistant coach to head coach following her first season. We wish her nothing but success in her next role."

In three seasons at the helm, Agu had an overall record of 23-70, including a mark of 8-43 in Atlantic 10 play. Agu coached two A-10 All-Rookie Team selections - Madi Disu (2023) and Grace Hammond (2021). As an assistant coach, Agu helped the Rams reach the A-10 semifinals in the 2020-21 COVID-19-shortened season.
