Slowey Adds Coastal Carolina Transfer Mia Sheldon

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's lacrosse head coach Jenna Slowey announced the addition of Coastal Carolina transfer Mia Sheldon. This is the second grad transfer Slowey has nabbed this month, after she added Sami MacDonald from High Point last week. "As a new program, finding student athletes that understand what we are building is imperative, and there is no doubt Mia gets it," said Slowey. "We are so excited to add her athleticism and speed to the defensive unit. Playing at the Division I level throughout her career gives her the poise, experience, and tenacity to be ready to compete."

Sheldon totaled nine caused turnovers in 30 games played during her time at Coastal. Last year, the defender scored her first career goal against Kennesaw State and started 15 of 16 games. In the classroom, Sheldon collected Chauncey's Honor Roll and Dean's List honors all four years. To add to her career, she was also a member of the cross country team in the fall of 2021.

Before her time with the Chants, Sheldon was a three-sport athlete at Methacton High School where she earned varsity letters in lacrosse, cross country, and soccer. A NJNT Lax Classic All-Tournament honoree, she also earned a spot on the PAC12 All-Conference Liberty Second Team. She was named Mercury Girl's All-Area after leading the team to the 2016-17 Pioneer Division Championship title.

The Rams are set for their inaugural season starting next spring 2025.
