KINGSTON, R.I. - With just over a week before Rhode Island Football's season opener, head coach
Jim Fleming announced that the team has named defensive lineman
Westley Neal, Jr. and running back
Gabe Sloat as team captains.
The duo has a combined nine years of experience with the Rams' program and has helped the team achieve nearly 25 victories in its tenure.
Both Sloat and Neal landed on the All-CAA Football Third Team at the end of the 2023 season. Sloat achieved the feat as a punt returner after a redshirt junior campaign that saw him tally 175 yards on 21 punt returns. Additionally, the North Kingstown native logged 225 rushing yards with two touchdowns on 61 carries. Neal started all 10 games he appeared in and recorded 25 tackles, 5.0 TFLs, one sack and four QB hurries as a redshirt junior. A Miami native, he enters the year with 100 career stops.
