RHODE ISLAND VS. MASSACHUSETTS - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Massachusetts are meeting for the 165th time.
  • The only school Rhode Island has played more often than UMass is Brown (166 games).
  • It is a series that dates back to 1908, with at least one meeting every season since 1950.
  • Rhody and UMass have met at least twice every season since 1981.
  • They played three times in seven seasons, doing so in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1992, 1993, 2014 and 2016.
  • This is the final time UMass will visit the Ryan Center as a member of the Atlantic 10. The Minutemen will join the Mid-American Conference in 2025-26, becoming the league's first full-time member since 1998.
  • UMass has been in the Atlantic 10 since 1976, when the league was called the Eastern Collegiate Basketball League, more commonly known as the Eastern 8.
  • UMass leads the all-time series, 95-69.
  • Rhode Island is 42-34 when hosting the Minutemen.

  • House had a second 20-point game when the teams met in Amherst, going for 22 points.
  • In the game at UMass last season, Rhody trailed by 14 points with 5:36 to go and came all the way back to get a potential game-winning shot off at the buzzer, but the Minutemen were able to escape with the win.
  • Massachusetts is one of the best shot-blocking teams in the country. The Minutemen rank fourth nationally and lead the Atlantic 10 with 6.1 blocks per game.
  • UMass uses its size on the glass to average 40.0 rebunds per game, which is 25th in the nation and first in the A-10. 
  • The Minutemen also lead the league and are 21st nationally with 13.75 offensive rebounds per game.
  • UMass struggles shooting from the perimeter, ranking last in the league with a .283 3-point shooting percentage. 
  • Rhode Island leads the Atlantic 10 in 3-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot just .284 from long range.

HOUSE FINDING HIS SCORING TOUCH

  • Guard Jaden House has scored in double digits five times in the last six games, averaging 14.3 points over the stretch.
  • He is 5-for-11 from 3-point range over his last three games after shooting a combined 11-for-38 over the first 17 games of the season.
  • House is closing in on 1,700 career points, entering Wednesday's game with 1,681.
  • He had 1,002 points at High Point and has 679 points in two years at URI. 
  • House is shooting .472 overall (75-of-159) and .816 at the free throw line (62-of-76), both career bests.
