CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Rhode Island's doubles team of Nikki Fernando and Kajsa Helgesen advanced to the Round of 32 at the ITA Division I Women's New England Regional Championships Friday.

Fernando and Helgesen defeated the Boston University team of Lauren Kettlewell and Yimei Emily Zhao by a score of 8-4. Fernando and Helgesen advanced to set up a match with Connecticut's team of Madison McLeod and Chloe Lomans. Unfortunately a minor injury to Fernando forced the Rams to withdraw, ending the team's run at the tournament.

Rhody's doubles team of Grace Darcy and Anastasia Pettersson was defeated in the opening round. They fell to Bryant's Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Hernandez Diaz, 8-5.

Later in the day, Fernando was defeated the singles draw. She fell in three sets to Tola Glowacka from Boston College. After Fernando took the opening set 6-3, Glowacka rallied to take the second set 6-4 and even the match. Glowacka then won the match with a 6-0 third set.

Rhode Island will close out its Fall schedule with the URI Fall Invite, which will be held at the URI Tennis Complex from Oct. 25-26.
