How it Happened
Rhode Island (3-19, 0-10 Atlantic 10) won the opening set before host Duquesne (12-10, 4-7 A-10) took over. After Rhody took the first set 25-20, the Dukes won three straight sets 25-17, 25-11, 25-22.

Set One - Rhode Island 25, Duquesne 20
Rhody never let Duquesne get into a rhythm, converting 13 of its 20 sideout opportunities. With Dakota Henry (9 digs), Sydney Houchens (5 digs) and Emma Vente (4 digs), leading the way, the defense kept points alive throughout the set. Vente had five kills with no errors to help URI take the early lead.

Set Two - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 17
It was close early on, with Rhody pulling within 11-10 following a Duquesne service error. A 5-1 run for the Dukes established a lead Duquesne never relinquished. Carsyn Henschen (5 kills), Ariel Helm (4 kills) and Karli Jordan (4 kills) combined for 13 kills and no attack errors as the Duquesne offense began to click.

Set Three - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 11
It was all Duquesne in the third set. The Dukes used an 11-0 run to put the set away as Rhode Island hit negative .269 (4 kills, 11 errors in 26 attacks).

Set Four - Duquesne 25, Rhode Island 22
Needing the set to force a deciding fifth, Rhode Island trailed for most of the frame. Down 22-18, a kill by Emma Vente followed by a block for Vente and Chloe Abuto pulled the Rams within two, forcing a Duquesne timeout. Out of the break, the Dukes closed the match out with three straight points.
