How it Happened
Despite losing its regular-season finale, Rhode Island finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings and will host a first-round postseason game.
The Rams entered the day with 17 points in the A-10 standings, just ahead of Loyola Chicago (15 points) and La Salle (14 points. Loyola Chicago tied with Saint Louis to finish with 16 points, while La Salle lost to Duquesne, locking URI into the fourth seed. Rhody's first-round opponent will be announced when the league releases its postseason bracket.
Dayton recorded its 13th shutout of the season as it handed Rhode Island a 2-0 defeat in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Flyers entered the match ranked second in the nation with an 0.706 shutout percentage, and keeper Batoul Reda made three saves to record her 13th shutout, which leads the nation.
Karli Ferguson scored in the 20th minute and Emery Newlin added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute to secure the victory.
