How It Happened
It was a five-set slugfest, as Davidson was able to outlast Rhode Island 27-25, 20-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-13. The Rams (3-12, 0-3 Atlantic 10) actually outscored the Wildcats (6-8, 1-3 A-10) 112-106 on the night despite the loss.

Set One - Davidson 27, Rhode Island 25
Down 24-21, Rhode Island was able to fight off three set points and tie the score 24-24. Kills by Havyn Rolle and Aerin Bowman followed by a Rolle ace evened the score. The teams traded the next two points before Davidson got set point on a Jackie Bardin kill. This time, the Wildcats converted the set point after a URI attack error.

Set Two - Rhode Island 25, Davidson 20
Rhode Island got its offense on track in the second set, getting 12 kills with just two errors. The efficiency coupled with 19 digs defensively helped Rhody even the match. Chloe Abuto delivered ace with the Rams up 24-20, pulling URI even in sets.

Set Three - Davidson 26, Rhode Island 24
With the score tied 17-17, Ellie Ocampo came up with three straight kills for Davidson. Rhody fought back to tie the score at 22-22 when Ema Stermenska and Hannah Jonick combined on a block. The teams were then tied at 23-23 and 24, but a Rhody service error and an Ocampo kill made it 2-1 for the visitors.

Set Four - Rhode Island 25, Davidson 18
Rhode Island got five kills from Havyn Rolle and three from Aerin Bowman in the fourth set to keep the match alive. The Ram defense forced nine attack errors and held Davidson to a minus-.036 hitting percentage. Ema Stermenska's ace ended the set and set up a deciding fifth.

Set Five - Davidson 15, Rhode Island 13
Three attack errors by Davidson and a kill by Aerin Bowman had Rhode Island out to a 4-1 lead. However, Davidson scored four straight to pull ahead 5-4. The Wildcats gradually built a lead, going up 13-9 following a kill by Meile Songalia. The Wildcats had four match points at 14-10, but Rhody got two kills from Havyn Rolle and a Davidson attack error to pull within one at 14-13. Another Songalia kill ended the rally and the match.
