RHODE ISLAND VS. STETSON - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Stetson are meeting for just the second time.
- The only previous meeting between the teams came in the 2007-08 season, when Rhode Island beat the Hatters 80-65 at the Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
- Guard Jamie Phillips Jr. was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team.
- He was a member of the league's all-rookie team last season after averaging 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
- Stetson is coming off an 8-24 season in which it lost 10 of its final 11 contests.
- Redshirt junior forward Finley Sheridan attended Long Island Lutheran, the same high school as Rhode Island's Drissa Traore.
RHODY LOOKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON-OPENING VICTORY
- Rhode Island has won its last two season openers, beating Central Connecticut State 81-70 in 2023-24 and then Fairfield 96-58 last season.
- The Rams are 10-2 in openers over the last 12 years.
- After leaving the state of Rhode Island twice for three games total in non-conference play last season, it will do so three times for five games this season.
- URI plays against Tulsa in Annapolis, Md. on Nov. 7 at the Veteran's Classic.
- Then it plays at Yale on Nov. 18 before going to Orlando for three games at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational.
VETERAN'S CLASSIC NEXT UP FOR RHODE ISLAND
- Following Monday's season opener, Rhode Island will head to Annapolis, Md. to compete at the 2025 Veteran's Classic.
- The Navy-hosted event is a nationally-televised doubleheader on CBS Sports Network.
- Rhode Island will take on Tulsa in the first game at 6 p.m.
- The nightcap will feature Navy taking on Yale at 8:30 p.m.
- Rhode Island will play at Yale on Nov. 18.
- This is the 12th annual Veteran's Classic.
- The day before the game, the team will spend the morning touring the Naval Academy before attending a special reception and dinner for all of the participants.
