How it Happened
No. 4 Rhode Island blitzed No. 2 Saint Louis with three second-half goals to hang a 4-2 defeat on the Billikens and earn a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship finals. The victory was Rhode Island's first ever in Saint Louis.
The Rams will play in the title game for the first time in 20 years.
After Saint Louis took an early lead in the 11th minute on a Hannah Larson goal,
Jill Rosenfeld lined a tough-angle laser over the outstretched reach of Billiken keeper Emma Parker. The scored remained tied until the second half.
Rhody took its first lead in the 55th minute when
Lauren MacDonald buried a right-footed shot. The lead was short lived, as Julia Simon tied the score for Saint Louis just eight minutes later.
Down the stretch, it was all Rhode Island.
Kaia Rice put URI back in front just three minutes after Saint Louis had tied the match, taking wind out of the sails of the hosts. Then, in the 76th minute, MacDonald struck for her second goal of the night, clinching the win and sending Rhody to the conference finals for the first time since 2005.
