How it Happened
Tulsa surged midway through the first half and Rhode Island never recovered as the Rams fell 82-65 at the Veteran's Classic Friday night.
The game opened at a breakneck pace, with the teams combining for 33 points in the first 6:33. Rhode Island (1-1) led 16-11 following a Jahmere Tripp 3-pointer, but a 16-0 run for Tulsa put the Golden Hurricane (2-0) up 27-16 with 7:50 to go in the half. Jalan Lawal and Miles Barnstable each had eight points in the half to lead Tulsa, which took a 36-39 lead into the break.
Rhody managed to cut the deficit to seven by halftime, but the opening minutes of the second half doomed URI. The Rams committed five turnovers while attempting just one shot in the first three minutes of the second half. This allowed Tulsa to extend the lead back to 11 points.
The Golden Hurricane maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the second half. Rhody managed to trim the lead to 49-40 with 13:32 to go, but that was as close as the score got.
