Five Rams Named to Football Central All-American Team

KINGSTON, R.I. - Five members of the Rhode Island Football team were named to the 2025 FCS Football Central All-American team, it was announced Monday afternoon

Wide receiver Marquis Buchanan and linebacker A.J. Pena earned spots on the First-Team. Defensive back Ayinde Johnson was named to the Second-Team. Quarterback Devin Farrell and linebacker Rohan Davy each were selected to the Third-Team.

Rhode Island's five selections are tied for third most nationally with Illinois State, Lehigh, Youngstown State, Montana State, and Yale. North Dakota State leads all programs with eight selections, followed by Stephen F. Austin and Montana with six selections.

Buchanan, a FCS Football Central Preseason All-American, recorded 1,337 receiving yards in 2025, the third most in a single season in team history. The Providence, R.I. native had the fifth most in a single season in Rhode Island Football history with 78. Buchanan had eight touchdown catches in his 2025 campaign and earned All-CAA First-Team and All-New England honors.

This is the second consecutive season that Pena was named a First-Team All-American honoree from FCS Football Central. Pena completed the season with 89 tackles. He recorded team-bests in tackles for loss (21) and sacks (11).  Pena's 11 sacks are tied for eighth most in a single season in program history, and his 21 tackles for loss are tied for third best in program history. Pena was named 2025 CAA Defensive Player of the Year.

Johnson enjoyed a historic season for Rhode Island. His 13 pass breakups this season is the most in a single season in program history. The senior had 70 tackles and two interceptions in 2025.

With 3,745 passing yards this season, Farrell threw for the second most yards in FCS Football and the third most yards in a single season in program history. Farrell threw for 24 touchdowns and added three more scores on the ground. Tom Ehrhardt is the only quarterback in program history to pass for more yards and touchdowns in a season than Farrell did in 2025.

Davy made a significant jump in his sophomore season. He appeared in 10 games and recorded 10 tackles, six of which were on special teams in 2024. This season, Davy had 101 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. He also had a 45-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown against New Hampshire.

Rhode Island won the outright CAA Football title in 2025 and advanced to the second round of the FCS Championship. It was the Rams first outright conference championship since 1985.
