RHODE ISLAND VS. RICHMOND - Series notes

  • The Atlantic 10's top teams face off as Rhody welcomes Richmond to Kingston for the first league contest at the Ryan Center Tuesday.
  • It's the 34th time the teams have faced. Historically, Rhody is 10-23 against the Spiders all-time.
  • Richmond has won the last four straight meetings in the series. The last Rhody win was March 20, 2023 in a 74-64 victory to send the Rams to the Super 16 in the WNIT.
  • The game is the first of two meetings this season between Rhode Island and Richmond, with the Rams traveling to face the Spiders in RVA on Feb. 25.
  • The Rams enter the game winning their last four straight games.
  • Both URI and Richmond won their A-10 conference openers and are 1-0 in league play.
  • Former Billikens Brooklyn Gray and Tierra Simon will face off after spending the last two years as teammates at Saint Louis.

SCOUTING THE SPIDERS

  • Richmond enters Tuesday's game winning its last four straight games.
  • The Spiders are 11-3 overall. The three losses are all to ranked opponents, or opponents receiving votes.
  • Richmond is led by five-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Maggie Doogan.
  • Last time out in Richmond's win over Penn State, Doogan dropped 30 points playing all 40 minutes while adding five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
  • The Spiders were selected to finish first in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, receiving nine first-place votes.
  • Head coach Aaron Roussell is in his seventh season leading Richmond.

SETTING THE SYLA STANDARD

  • Rhode Island sophomore Albina Syla had an impressive showing last time out in Rhody's win over Wagner.
  • The captain dropped a career-best 18 points on an efficient 8-of-10 from the floor, and connected on both of her free throw attempts.
  • She added nine rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive glass.
  • The center also set a new career-high with two blocks.

NON-CON, WRAPPED

  • Rhode Island finished its non-conference slate 10-2, good for its best non-league finish in program history.
  • The Rams were 10-3 to start both 2021-22 and 2022-23.
  • The 2022-23 season was the best season in program history, as the Rams finished with a record 26 wins and a share of the Atlantic 10 regular season title.
