How It Happened
A five-run rally in the top of the third inning was the difference as Dartmouth (2-6) handed Rhode Island a 9-5 loss Saturday morning.

Rhody (1-2) got off to a strong start, scoring four runs over the first two innings to build an early 4-1 lead. During a three-run second, Julianne Torres had a run-scoring single and Emily Power followed with a two-run single of her own.

Dartmouth responded in a big way a half inning later. With runners on second and third with one out, Scarlet Niles singled to center to drive in two and make it a one-run game. Marilyn Beauvais was hit by a pitch, but URI was one out away from escaping further damage following a strikeout. Jenna Brown doubled to right center, to bring Niles and Brown around. Brown advanced to third on an error during the play, and later scored on a throwing error by URI's catcher, making the score 8-5.

Rhody got one back in the bottom of third when Mandi Hanewich scored on a wild pitch. However, URI left the bases loaded. Dartmouth added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while Rhode Island was blanked over the final four innings.
