How It Happened
Rhode Island could not generate much offense against Kendall Thackston as the Rams fell 5-2 at College of Charleston Saturday.
Thackston (2-4) scattered three hits and three walks as she hurled a complete game.
Rhody (1-3) manufactured a run in the top of the first as
Casey Miller led off with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on
Kylie Bulinski's sacrifice fly.
Another sacrifice fly for the Rams made it 2-0 in the third.
Allison Jones singled to start the inning.
Mandi Hanewich and Bulinski were both hit by a pitch, loading the bases.
Emily Power's sacrifice fly brought Jones in, but that was all URI got.
In the bottom of the third, College of Charleston (3-9) scored four times with two outs. With the bases loaded, Kaytlin Stacey delivered a two-run single to center. After a walk filled the bases again, Kennedy Rhue added a two-run single of her own to out the Cougars in front 4-2.
Down two, in the top of the sixth, Rhody got the tying runs as
Katie Knarr singled and Giulianna Ialongo worked a walk. Pinch-hitter
Becca Zawistowski hit into a double play and
Avery Vale-Cruz flew out to thwart the potential rally.
Charleston added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Rams again got the potential tying and go-ahead runs on in the top of the seventh.
