How it Happened
The Rhode Island women's basketball team's comeback fell short at Saint Louis, as the Rams suffered a 67-63 defeat on Wednesday evening.
A sluggish effort in the second and third quarters came back to haunt the Rams, who had a +12 scoring margin in the final 10 minutes. Forwards
Anaelle Dutat and
Katie Ledden each hit threes in the last 15 seconds to cut the lead down to 66-63, but it was the closest that the team got as SLU's Brooklyn Gray iced the game with a last-second free throw.
After facing a narrow 27-24 deficit at the end of the first half, Rhody went on to find itself down by as much as 16 at the end of a third quarter in which the team shot 27.3 percent from the floor. After regrouping, Rhode Island kicked off the fourth quarter with a key 12-2 run that helped shift the momentum in its favor.
Unfortunately, URI ran out of time to overcome its mid-game struggles.
