How it Happened
The Rhode Island women's lacrosse team could not keep up with in-state foe Bryant on Wednesday evening, falling 19-5 on the Bulldogs' home turf in Smithfield.
A seven-goal first quarter was the big difference in Rhody's loss, as the team was eventually able to hold its hosts to just two scores in the final quarter.
The teams traded goals to start, with
Brinley Myers and
Sami MacDonald getting the Rams on the board in the opening three minutes, but the best that URI could do was tie Bryant at 2-2.
Up 12-4 by the halftime break, the Bulldogs continued to pull away in what was a scoreless third quarter for Rhody and eventually reached a 10-goal margin at 14-4 with 7:03 left in the period.
Aerin Keesser provided Rhode Island's final goal of the night, finding the back of the net for the first time in her young career at the 6:24 mark of the fourth quarter. Though her shot lifted the Rams to their final total, Bryant added one last score about two minutes later to claim its official margin of victory.
