How it Happened
Rhode Island fell in a track meet at Massachusetts Saturday night, losing 91-88.
The Rams (17-11, 6-10 Atlantic 10) 77-67 after a
Cam Estevez 3-pointer with 10:53 to go. It was one of 16 3-pointers for Rhody on the night, which tied the program record.
UMass (12-17, 7-9 A-10) caught fire, scoring 14 unanswered points to take an 81-77 lead with 6:31 remaining. Daniel Sanford-Hankins capped the run with back-to-back 3-pointers. Rhody's scoring drought lasted more than five minutes before
Sebastian Thomas hit a fadeaway to make it 81-79.
The Minutemen held the lead until
David Green hit a 3-pointer to tie the score 85-85 with his eighth trey of the game. From there, Rahsool Diggins (29 points) scored the next six points, enabling UMass to pull out the victory.
The game was wild from the start, as the teams combined for 103 points and 13 lead changes in the first half. Rhode Island made 10 3-pointers while building a 56-47 halftime lead. Green had 16 points and was 4-of-4 from the arc, while
Jamarques Lawrence added 15 and made three treys of his own.
Sebastian Thomas had nine points and seven assists in the opening 20 minutes as Rhode Island shot 58.3 percent (21-of-36) overall.
For Massachusetts Jaylen Curry and Diggins combined for 26 points in the first half to keep the Minutemen close.

- Point guard Sebastian Thomas just missed a double-double, finishing with 17 points, nine assists and four rebounds.
- He now has 158 assists on the season, making him the sixth different URI player to eclipse the mark.
- Guard Jamarques Lawrence had 18 points and three assists.
- Rhode Island had 19 assists and just nine turnovers.
- The UMass trio of Rahsool Diggins (29), Jaylen Curry (22) and Daniel Hankins-Sanford (19) combined for 70 of the team's 91 points
