How It Happened
Rhode Island suffered a 13-1 loss to Western Carolina Saturday night.
The host Catamounts (6-9) scored 10 runs on six hits and seven walks in the first inning. Four of the six batters who walked came around to score.
Maya McPherson had a two-run single and Taylor Waitley added an RBI single as four of the first five batters had hits for the Catamounts. Sydney Dirks drilled a grand slam to center to bust things open.
Rhode Island (2-7) managed a single run in the third inning, but it was never able to apply much pressure.
