How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball put together a strong showing to defeat in-state foe Bryant, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field for its first home victory of the 2025 season.

As has been the case for most of the year so far, the Rams' (8-8) offense got going early and put up a crooked number in the opening frame. A pair of back-to-back doubles from Eric Genther and Ryan Thompson lifted URI to a 2-0 lead, and the team never looked back

Thompson later kicked off the fourth with a base hit and scored on a wild pitch before Reece Moroney's single made it 4-0. In the following frame, Rhody added a trio of runs to its total thanks to a solo shot from Genther, Ryan Henschel stealing home and an RBI double off the bat of Danny Leikus

Pitching-wise, it was a staff day for Rhode Island as seven different arms made an appearance. Connor Johnston and Braeden Perry opened things up by throwing 2.0 innings apiece before the remaining five Rams all threw an inning.

Bryant's (5-8-1) lone score came via a solo home run in the top of the eighth. Though the Bulldogs had a few other chances to score, notably leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, the Rams cruised to their win.

Inside the Box Score
  • With the result, Rhode Island snapped a five-game losing streak in its series against Bryant.
  • The victory lifted the Rams to a .500 record both on the year (8-8) and at home (1-1).
  • Junior Connor Johnston earned his first win of the year, improving to 1-2. In his 2.0-inning start, he struck out four batters while scattering two hits.
  • Senior Eric Genther led the offense, going 3-for-5 with one home run and a double.
  • Freshman Ryan Thompson was 2-for-4 at the plate, the only other Ram with a multi-hit game, and tallied one RBI.
  • Sophomore Reece Moroney and freshman Danny Leikus had one hit apiece.
  • Redshirt sophomore Braeden Perry fanned three batters in 2.0 scoreless, hit-less innings.
  • Freshman pitcher Nate Fletcher made his debut in the fifth inning and struck out the first Bulldog he faced.
  • Juniors Dorsy Asencio and Colin Maloney had nearly the same stat line with 1.0 inning pitched, no hits, two walks and one strikeout.
  • Sophomore AJ Jones was on the hook for Bryant's home run.
