Loyola Chicago 10, Rhode Island 2 (5)
A two-out, four-run rally in the third inning was the difference as Loyola Chicago completed a three-game sweep of Rhode Island Sunday.
Rhody (7-19, 2-7 Atlantic 10) held a 2-1 lead with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the third. Loyola Chicago (8-24, 4-5 A-10) got four hits and a hit batsman – all with two outs – to pull ahead 5-2. The big hit was a three-run double by Skyler Croker.
URI got a two-out, two-run single from
Julianne Torres in the top of the second. Her hit drove in
Natalie Maleitzke and
Allison Jones to put the Rams ahead 2-1, marking the first time all series Rhode Island held a lead.
Any hopes for a late rally were squashed by a five-run frame by the Ramblers in the bottom of the fifth. Alli Pawlowicz ended the game in walk-off fashion with an opposite field grand slam.
