The Rams (4-10) scored twice in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead. Katie Knarr – who had four hits in the game – had an RBI single in each of the first two innings, while Julianne Torres had an RBI groundout in the first and a run-scoring single in the second.

In the third, URI scored two runs without the benefit of a hit. Natalie Maleitzke was hit by a pitch and Casey Miller walked. A wild pitch moved both into scoring position, and with two outs, Kylie Bulinski reached on an error.

Staked with run support, Vale-Cruz (1-1) allowed just one run over the first five innings, a solo home run. UMBC (3-13) managed to score three times in the sixth inning, but all three runs were unearned and came after there were already two outs.

With the Rhody trimmed to 7-4 and runners on first and third with two outs, Trosin entered the game and retired the first batter she faced, ending the rally. She then added a scoreless seventh to lock down the save.
