How it Happened
A wild battle between two teams tied atop the Atlantic 10 standings went in Rhode Island's favor as the Rams outlasted Dayton 11-10 Friday evening.

After Dayton scored a run in the top of the first, Rhode Island got a pair of home runs to take a 3-1 lead. With Anthony DePino on second, Eric Genther launched a two-run shot to right field. One out later, Jack Hopko went deep to right for a solo shot. The Rams didn't stop there, as Scott Penney singled and stole second. He came in on a wind-blown double by Nic Notarangelo, making the score 4-1 and giving URI starter Jeremy Urena a three-run cushion to work with.

A single run in the bottom of the third pushed Rhody's lead to 5-1, but Dayton scored five unanswered runs over their next three innings to move back in front, 6-5.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rhody got an RBI single from Penney and a two-run triple from Rob Butler as part of a four-run rally. Butler's hit drove in Notarengelo and Penney to give URI a 9-6 lead.

With two runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth, Dayton clawed back again, tying the score at 9-9.

It was Penney delivering the key hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, he fisted a single to left center, driving in Will Hindle and Reece Moroney with the winning runs.

In the top of the ninth, Dayton got a leadoff single from Mason Dobie and a double from Martin Howell to put the tying runs in scoring position with nobody out. A groundout by pinch hitter Alejandro Cazorla drove in Dobie to make it a one-run game.

Rhody closer Joe Sabbath (4-1) induced a fly ball off the bat of Ty Mainolfi, and right fielder Eric Genther delivered a perfect strike to the plate to throw out Howell trying to tag up from third, ending the game in dramatic fashion.
