How it Happened
Sloppy defense and little offense made for a bad combination as Rhode Island lost 5-1 at St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon.

On defense, the Rams (6-30, 3-13 Atlantic 10) made four defensive errors and had a misplayed fly ball that was ruled a double. On the offensive side, Rhody was limited to one run on three hits by Mackenzie Frani (4-11).

St. Bonaventure (7-29, 3-15 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two outs and a runner on third, Kendall Stull hit a grounder to shortstop, but an error by Casey Miller allowed Karena Recrosio to score an unearned run.

The Rams (9-27, 3-13 Atlantic 10) Natalie Maleitzke drew a four-pitch walk to start the top of the third. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Casey Miller and got to third on a wild pitch. She was stranded there, as Allison Jones grounded out and Katie Knarr popped out, both to the shortstop.

The Bonnies added to their lead with a run in the bottom of the third. Victoria Jacques was hit by a pitch to start the frame, and with one out, Stull hit a fly ball to right field that was misplayed by Noelle Sterner. The play was ruled a double, putting two runners in scoring position. An infield single by Nolah Moyer brought Jacques in for a 2-0 lead, but Rhody was able to escape without further damage.

An inning later, Recrosio drove in Abigail Ahern with the third run of the game. Ahern led off the inning with a triple to left center and scored when Recrosio singled through the right side. Jacques followed with a double to bring Recrosio around for a 4-0 lead. With two outs, an error by Sydney Orndorff at second base on a grounder by Stull allowed Jacques to come in for a five-run lead.

Rhody scored it run in the top of the sixth. With Allison Jones on first with two outs, Kylie Bulinkski lined a double to the gap in right center. The ball rolled to the fence, allowing Jones to come all the way around.
