How it Happened
Rhode Island dropped its sixth straight contest, losing to St. Bonaventure 3-2 in the series opener Friday afternoon.
The Rams (9-26, 3-12 Atlantic 10) got on the board in the top of the first.
Kylie Bulinski reached on a two-out single and advanced on a single up the middle by
Katie Knarr. A grounder off the bat of
Noelle Sterner was misplayed, allowing Bulinski to come around with the first run of the game.
St. Bonaventure (6-29, 2-15 A-10) got three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Victoria Jacques led off with a single. With one out, Kendall Stull hit a comebacker that Hibbard fielded. However, her throw to first went down the right field line, allowing Jacques to score and Stull to wind up on third base. Moyer singled up the middle to plate Stull. A double down the right field line by Dundon drove in pinch runner DeGram to cap the rally.
Rhody responded in the top of the fifth.
Hannah Hernandez reached on an infield single to get the frame started, and
Allison Jones followed with a bunt single that wound up putting runners on the corners. Jones moved to second on a groundout by Miller. Hernandez scored on a passed ball. With Jones on third and one out,
Mandi Hanewich grounded out to first, and Jones got hung up on the plate, getting thrown out at home.
The Rams managed just one base runner over the final two innings.
