How it Happened
Holy Cross ended a pitcher's duel in walk-off fashion when Maya Gallagher hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Crusaders beat Rhode Island 2-0 in the second game of a doubleheader.

Starters Sophia Roncone for Holy Cross and Brooke Gerry for Rhode Island were both brilliant, trading blank frame for the first six innings. Roncone (4-15) blanked URI (12-29) on two singles while striking out six batters. Gerry (1-3) allowed just two hits and struck out six through the first six innings.

The only blemish came late. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jena Whipple singled up the middle. Then, Gallagher and Gerry engaged in a seven-pitch battle, with Gallagher fouling off a pair of 2-2 offerings. Finally, she hit a line drive over the left field fence to end the contest.

  • Freshman Brooke Gerry (1-3) pitched her second career complete game.
  • Rhode Island pitchers have thrown three complete games in the team's last four contests. In the first 37 games of the year, URI's pitchers combined for four complete games.
  • Junior Hannah Hernandez singled and stole a base.
  • It was the 35 th steal of her career, tying Hernandez with Gabby Zagami (2001-04) for fifth place in program history.
  • Senior Emily Power has URI's only other hit, an infield single.
  • Junior Kylie Bulinski walked for the 26th time this season. She is five away from the single-season record set by Maura Zevnik in 1979. She is three away from the program's NCAA-era record of 29, set by Nicole Massoni in 2011.
  • The loss snapped URI's season-long three-game winning streak.
