An explosive first inning combined with a stellar outing from
Ashley Hibbard sparked Rhode Island to the victory.
Casey Miller walked and stole second to start the bottom of the first. The Rams (9-20, 3-8 A-10) got on the board when
Kylie Bulinski reached on an error that brought Miller around.
Katie Knarr singled and
Emily Power was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bulinski scored when
Noelle Sterner reached on an error. An RBI single by
Natalie Maleitzke and a run-scoring groundout by
Sydney Orndorff pushed the lead to 5-0.
From there, Hibbard (3-9) handled the Hawks (18-16, 7-4 A-10). She scattered two hits and two walks while blanking Saint Joseph's over five innings on Friday before the game was suspended for darkness.
Katie Zaun pitched the final two innings to close out the victory.

Game 2 – Saint Joseph's 14, Rhode Island 1 (5 inn.)
A nine-run top of the first led to a quick win for Saint Joseph's (19-16, 8-4 A-10) in the series finale. The Hawks piled up six hits and three walks in the rally. A bases-loaded triple by Sarah Cancila was the big hit in the rally.
The Rams (9-21, 3-9 A-10) got a solo home run from
Kylie Bulinski in the bottom of the frame. That was all the scoring Rhody got against Jules Scogna (4-2), who limited URI to two hits and two walks while pitching a complete game.
