How it Happened
Rhode Island recorded its second Atlantic 10 win, knocking off La Salle 18-12 Wednesday afternoon.
The teams combined for 14 goals in the opening quarter. La Salle led 3-2 when Rhode Island got hot, scoring five consecutive goals to pull ahead 7-3. Brinley Myers scored four goals during the run while MJ Timpanaro added a free position goal. An Alana Lathan goal for La Salle snapped the run, but goals by Danielle McHugh and Sydney MacDonald extended the Rhody advantage to 9-4.
The offense slowed a bit for both sides in the second quarter, though URI managed to outscore the Exlorers 4-3. Myers scored two more times in the second, with her sixth tally of the day putting Rhody up 13-7 before halftime.
It was all Rhode Island in the third as the Rams pulled away. Caralie Basuel scored three of the four goals to help the Rams establish a 10-goal lead at 17-7.
La Salle scored five times in the fourth quarter to close the gap to 18-12, but the final result was never in doubt.
