How it Happened
A three-run single in the top of the eighth inning sparked Stonehill to a 7-5 win to give the Skyhawks a doubleheader sweep Thursday.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, Grace Conaway singled to the gap in right center, clearing the bases and breaking a 4-4 tie. All three runs were unearned, as an error earlier in the frame helped set up the scoring opportunity. Stonehill (16-34) scored five unearned runs over the final three innings, taking advantage of untimely defensive miscues by the Rams.
Rhody (13-33) did not go down without a fight. Walks to
Hannah Hernandez and
Kylie Bulinski as well as a
Katie Knarr single loaded the bases with one out.
Sydney Orndorff slapped a hard chopper that went off the third baseman. While trying to corral the ball, Conaway was called for obstruction, allowing Hernandez to scored and make the score 7-5.
With the bases loaded,
Emily Power chopped a ball to Conaway at third. Conaway started a 5-2-3 double play that ended the threat and the game.
