How it Happened
Despite an early outburst, Rhode Island was unable to hold on as it fell 8-6 to Stonehill in the opener of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

After Stonehill scored twice in the top of the first, Rhode Island (13-32) came right back with four run in the bottom of the first inning, using three hits and three errors by the Skyhawks. Katie Knarr and Sydney Orndorff each had run-scoring singles. Emily Power added a sacrifice fly and Casey Miller had an RBI groundout to build a 4-2 lead.

Stonehill (15-34) retook the lead with four more runs in the top of the second. Isabella Therrien had a two-run single and Jessica Brill added an RBI double to key the rally as the guests moved ahead, 6-4.

In the bottom of the third, Orndorff had an RBI single and Julianne Torres added a run-scoring infield single to knot the score, 6-6. The Skyhawks had single runs in the fourth and fifth inning to pull ahead, 8-6.

Despite getting runners on base in each of its final four turns at bat, the Rams were unable to score against Harper Sullivan (7-4). She blanked URI on two hits over the final 4.1 innings to help Stonehill hold on in the opener.

  • Freshman Katie Knarr led the Rhode Island offense with three singles, two runs scored and one run batted in.
  • Sophomore Sydney Orndorff had two hits, two RBI and one run scored.
  • Senior Noelle Sterner singled twice and scored one run.
  • Junior Kylie Bulinski drew three walks. She finished the game with 32 for the season, breaking the URI single-season record of 31 set by Maura Zevnik in 1979.
  • Senior Emily Power doubled and had one RBI. She also became just the third player in program history to reach 300 career assists, joining Cassie Swenson (340 from 2020-24) and Courtney Prendergast (3o4 from 2009-13).
  • Junior Casey Miller singled and drove in one run.
  • Freshmen Julianne Torres and Allison Jones each had one hit.
Up Next
Rhode Island hosts Fordham for a three-game series this weekend to close out the season. The teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday will be Senior Day, starting at 12 p.m. All three games are scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
