Rhody to Close Out Regular Season at Saint Joseph’s

RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S - SERIES NOTES

The Rams and the Hawks have played each other 115 teams previously, with the history between the programs dating back to 1983.
Since the first meeting, Rhody has earned a 69-45-1 advantage over Saint Joseph's.
Though Rhode Island has the overall edge, the Hawks have won six of the past 10 games.
A year ago, the Rams grabbed two of those wins in a series at Bill Beck Field.
Rhody picked up 6-3 and 7-2 victories before dropping an 11-3 result in the finale.
The last time URI made the trip to Philly, back in 2023, the team was swept by Saint Joseph's.
The Hawks outscored their visitors by a combined 33-17.
Saint Joseph's head coach Fritz Hamburg is the all-time leader in coaching victories at Saint Joseph's, while URI's skipper Raphael Cerrato is two wins away from achieving the same feat at Rhode Island.
Senior Eric Genther is the only Pennsylvania native on Rhody's roster, hailing from Drexel Hill.
His high school, the Haverford School, is located about four miles away from Hawk Hill.

RAMS ON TOP

Rhode Island enters this weekend's series at the top of the Atlantic 10 standings and has a chance to clinch the league's regular season championship title.
At 19-8, George Mason is the only team that could stand in the Rams' way of achieving that feat.
The magic number for URI is three, as any combination of its wins plus a George Mason loss would seal the deal in Rhody's favor.
Should Rhode Island take all three games at Saint Joseph's, the Rams will win their first regular season title since 2021 and lock up the top seed for the upcoming conference championship.
URI can afford to lose one game to the Hawks if the Patriots do the same in their series at Fordham.
If the Rams and George Mason finish the regular season with the same record, the Patriots would be the regular season champions based on head-to-head record.
Rhode Island dropped two out of three games on the road in Fairfax at the end of April.
Saint Joseph's has not yet clinched a playoff spot and will be playing for its chance at a postseason appearance this weekend.
Championship play is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 24. For the No. 1 seed, competition will begin on Wednesday opposite the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 game.
The top seven teams in the conference will make the postseason tournament at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va.

THIRTY AND COUNTING...

Over the weekend, URI reached its most wins in a season since 2013 when the squad went 35-24.
This marks Rhody's first 30-win campaign since 2017 (31-22).
The Rams have now achieved the feat three times under head coach Raphael Cerrato, having also done so in the historic 2016 campaign that saw the team capture the Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship title (31-27).
Rhody has had 10 30-win seasons over the last 20 years.
The best the team did in that stretch was 37-20-1 in 2009.
The Rams' record has helped boost them to an Atlantic 10-best spot at No. 65 in the RPI rankings.
Rhody is one of two league teams in the top 100, joined by George Mason at No. 96.
