How it Happened
A Scott Penney grand slam in the eighth inning lifted Rhode Island Baseball to an 8-7 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon at Houlihan Park.

Penney's heroics, as well as Brandon Hsu slamming the door on the mound, helped Rhody complete the series sweep.

URI had trailed by as much as 5-0 after a crooked number put the home team ahead by that margin in the fourth inning. Following six scoreless frames, Rhode Island got on the board in the top of the seventh when Rob Butler worked a bases-loaded walk and DJ Perron scored on a Fordham error.

Reece Moroney then led off the following frame with a single and was joined on the basepaths by Jack Hopko and Nic Notarangelo, both of whom walked. With one out on the board, Penney stepped up to the plate and took the first pitch he saw deep to center field to put the Rams on top, 6-5. A few at-bats later, Anthony DePino also went yard and scooped up Brody McKenzie on the way to make it an 8-5 lead.

Fordham nearly pulled off the comeback in the ninth, getting Rhody's advantage down to one run when Bucciero drilled a two-run homer as the second batter of the inning. With no outs on the board, Rhode Island brought Hsu out from the bullpen to close the game down and he did just that, retiring all three batters he faced.
