How it Happened
Rhode Island picked up its second straight win, defeating defending America East champions Maine 2-0 on the road Sunday. It's the first time since 2012 the Rams have started 2-0 to begin the season.Â
A strong Rhody defense limited the Black Bears to two shots on goal in the first half of play. The teams went into the break scoreless, 0-0.
Lauren MacDonald got the Rams on the board with her first goal of the season. In the 52nd minute, Jill Rosenfeld was able to break through the Maine defenders and find Kaia Rice, who had a cross up field to MacDonald just outside the box. MacDonald scored on a blast that got past Maine keeper Grace Wilson.
McKenna Sylvester sealed the win with a shot after getting tangled up with Wilson and found the back of the net to snap the Black Bears America East record 27-game home unbeaten streak and send the Rams home with the first road win of 2025.Â
