How it Happened
A wild five-minute stretch in the second half provided all of the scoring as Bryant held off Rhode Island 2-1 Tuesday night.
The teams were scoreless through the first 69 minutes until the host Bulldogs used a corner kick in the 70th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Jaime Amado lofted a curling, left-footed ball into the box, and Abdel Talabi was able to work through a scrum and body the ball over the goal line.
Five minutes later the Bulldogs padded the lead with a set piece. Paco Fernandez curled a right-footed shot over the Rhody wall and under the dive of keeper
Lenno Schmidt for a 2-0 advantage.
The Rams needed just 28 seconds to respond.
Collin Martin sent a through up the right side for
Theo Harris, who muscled his way by the Bryant defense. Harris slipped a hard shot under Bryant keeper Ramon Camejo to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Bryant defense - which allowed just 12 goals in 20 matches last season - did not allow Rhode Island another shot over the final 15 minutes.
