How it Happened
A pair of second-half goals was the difference as Providence defeated Rhode Island 3-1 Monday night.

PC reserve Angelo Ventrella scored the Friars first goal and then assisted on the game winner by Ian Abbey. The Friars to their first lead in the 75th minute then got an insurance goal from Bruno Rosa on an unassisted tally in the 80th minute.

Rhode Island struck first on a header from Daniel Goba in the 35th minute. Tiago Barriguinha sent a long free kick into the box, and Goba got above the defense to knock the ball past keeper Ryan Carney.

The Friars evened things in 43rd minute. Sam Monatalto hustled to tip a pass from beyond the end line back into the box to Angelo Ventrella, who sent a bouncer into the net.
