STORRS, Conn - Rhode Island opened its Fall season, playing Army, Connecticut and Sacred Heart over the course of three days at the UConn Invitational.

There were no team results over the course of the three-day event. During the middle day, singles play against UConn was halted due to rain before most of the matches could be completed.

Senior Sophie Herrman, junior Ava Grnja and sophomore Blake Rothchild each went 2-0 in singles play, beating opponents from Army and Sacred Heart. Rothchild also went 2-0 in doubles play, teaming with Steph Hylton for victories over Army and Sacred Heart.

Nikki Fernando, Grace Darcy and Anastasia Petterson all went 1-1 in singles play. Fernando picked up a pair of doubles wins, pairing with freshman Kajsa Helgesen for victories over UConn and Sacred Heart.

"We got a lot of quality matches this weekend at UConn," Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "That's always what you are looking for at your first Fall tournament. We'll take some positives home with us, but we also have a lot of things to bring back to the practice courts."

Rhode Island is back in action when it travels to the Harvard Hidden Dual in Cambridge, Mass. from Oct. 3-5.
