How it Happened
No. 6/7 Rhode Island scored a touchdown just 69 seconds into the game, but that was the high point in a 47-14 loss at FBS-level Western Michigan Saturday night.
After taking the opening kickoff, the Rams (4-1) got a 56-yard pass play from
Devin Farrell to
Marquis Buchanan on first down. Buchanan drew a pass interference in the end zone on the next snap, which set up a 2-yard touchdown run by
Antwain Littleton, Jr. just 1:09 into the game as Rhody took a 7-0 lead.
It was all Western Michigan (2-3) from there. The host Broncos scored 44 unanswered points, 31 of which came before halftime. Quarterback Broc Lowry was 15-of-20 for 143 yards and one passing touchdown while also rushing for 52 yards and another touchdown in his second career start.
The Broncos picked up 18 first downs in the first half and out rushed URI 149-11 in the first half as they put the game away early.
