How It Happened
In a loss that was closer than the final score indicated, Rhode Island (3-11, 0-2 Atlantic 10) fell at George Washington 3-1 Saturday afternoon. The host Revolutionaries (9-5, 2-0 A-10) got 56 assists from setter Abby Markworth, who spread the wealth. Four GW players had at least 13 kills, with Cianna Tejada (17) and Alexis Rodriguez (15) leading the way.

URI got a career-high 20 kills from Havyn Rolle, but it was not enough. In the end, Rhody fell 26-24, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16.

Set One – George Washington 26, Rhode Island 24
Rhode Island trailed 18-14, but a 44-0 run that featured a Chloe Abuto kill, a block by Abuto and Ema Stermanska and an Emma Vente ace tied the score. The teams then traded points with ties at 19-19, 20-20, 21-21, 22-22 and 24-24. In the end, a Cianna Tejada kill and a URI attack error gave the hosts the set.

Set Two – George Washington 26, Rhode Island 24
With the score tied 19-19, Emma Vente delivered a kill from Ema Stermenska, but the Revolutionaries got the point back on a Vente service error. Sydney Hasenfratz put GW ahead 21-21 with a kill, but she gave the point back on the next play with an attack error. Hasenfratz and Riley Samuel combined on a block to once again give GW the lead, but an attack error by Cianna Tejada evened the score. From there, Tejada took over. She came through with a kill for a 23-22 lead. GW then had a service error and an attack error back-to-back, giving Rhode Island set point. Another Tejada kill knotted the match at 24-24, and then her fourth kill of the stanza gave GW set point. Tejada then blocked a Vente attack to close out another tight set.

Set Three – Rhode Island 25, George Washington 20
Rhode Island played its bet ball of the weekend in the third set. With the score tied 15-15, the Rams got two kills and a block from Hannah Jonick - who paired with Emma Vente on the block - to pull ahead 19-15. They kept the Revolutionaries at an arm's length the rest of the way, closing out the set with a kill from Havyn Rolle to extend the match.

Set Four – George Washington 25, Rhode Island 16
The fourth set started well, as Rhody scored four of the first five points. Kills by Chloe Abuto and Havyn Rolle helped URI jump out 4-1, but the momentum did not last. With the score tied 12-12, George Washington used an 8-2 run to pull in front, 20-14 on a Cayla Cogin kill. The lead was not threatened from there, and Cogin ended the match with her 13th kill of the day.
