How it Happened
George Mason took down Rhode Island 1-0 to close out the conference slate for the Rams Sunday evening.
The Patriots struck first in the 10
th minute when Gabin Thomelier dribbled to the goal line and sent a cutback pass into the path of James Eliuda, who poked his left foot at the ball and sent it past Rams goalie
William Synnestvedt.
In the 24
th minute,
Theo Harris and David Garcia got tied up, which prompted Garcia's hand to come up and strike Harris in the face. After VAR review, referee Shaun Papperman brandished a red card to Garcia, and the Patriots were knocked down to 10 men.
Both teams had just one shot on goal through the first 45 minutes of play. In the 52
nd minute,
Lou Forster came in hard on Christian Ramos and, after VAR review, was issued a red card.
Rhode Island could not find the tying goal, as the quality chances in the match were limited.
