Game Recap: Football |

Rams Fall at New Hampshire, 24-21

How it Happened
New Hampshire scored the go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds of the fourth quarter to hand Rhode Island a 24-21 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Wildcat quarterback Tommy McLeish connected with tight end Colby Ramshaw on a 1-yard shovel pass to give New Hampshire (3-7, 2-4 CAA Football) the lead. Rhode Island (5-5, 2-4 CAA Football) had one final opportunity from its own 29-yard line, but quarterback Alex McClelland's last-second heave fell incomplete.

Rhode Island had taken its first lead since the opening quarter with less than four minutes remaining in regulation. McClelland capped off the scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Rams ahead, 21-17. The score marked the first points of the second half for either team.

The Rams struck first on their second possession of the game. Following an 11-yard rush by McClelland, freshman running back Brayden Richardson broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run to give Rhode Island an early 7-0 advantage.

New Hampshire responded on the ensuing possession, as McLeish connected with wide receiver Logan Perez for a 52-yard touchdown to even the score at 7-7.

Rhode Island wasted little time reclaiming the lead on its next possession. Facing fourth-and-20 from the New Hampshire 26-yard line, McClelland found Sean Byrd in the end zone for a touchdown to put the Rams back in front, 14-7.

The Wildcats answered with 10 unanswered points in the second quarter, including a field goal as time expired in the half, to take a 17-14 advantage into the break.

Neither team found the end zone in the third quarter, setting the stage for the fourth-quarter finish that saw both teams score touchdowns in the final four minutes.
