How it Happened
Rhode Island withstood a second-half push by Monmouth to beat the Hawks 84-66 at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun Arena Saturday.

The Rams (2-0) used its balance and 3-point shooting to build a 59-40 lead early in the second half. At that point, Rhody had an 18-0 edge in perimeter scoring, holding Monmouth to 0-for-9 from deep to start the game. A 10-0 Monmouth run trimmed the lead to single digits with 9:02 to go, and Archie Miller called a timeout to relax his squad.

Rhode Island responded with 23-12 run over the next eight minutes to push the lead back to 20 points. Jonah Hinton and Jason Fontenet II each had two 3-pointers and Jahmere Tripp added one of his own during the key run as the Rams put the game away.
