RHODE ISLAND AT JACKSONVILLE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island opens the 2026 season with a four-game series at Jacksonville. The Rams and Dolphins are set to play solo games on Friday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 15, and a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 14. 
  • The Rams are 0-4 all time against Jacksonville. 
  • The first meeting between the programs was in 1993. 
  • The most recent match up was from March 2-4, 2018. The Dolphins swept the Rams in a three-game series in northern Florida. 
  • Jacksonville is one of four Atlantic Sun Conference schools Rhode Island has played in program history. Including its record against Jacksonville, the Rams are 6-12 overall against current ASUN schools. 
  • Rhode Island is 1-3 against Florida Gulf Coast, 1-5 against Stetson, and 4-0 against Eastern Kentucky. 
  • On the road last season, the Rams swept Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series. 

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

  • After missing the postseason entirely in 2024, Rhode Island Baseball returned as the top seed and won its third Atlantic 10 conference title in program history in 2025.
  • The Rams, who captured the regular season championship, knocked off four-seed Davidson and three-seed Saint Louis before defeating two-seed George Mason in Saturday's championship game.
  • Four Rhody student-athletes were named to the All-Tournament Team, led by Most Outstanding Player DJ Perron.
  • The graduate student was joined by classmates Trystan Levesque and Nic Notarangelo, along with senior Anthony DePino. 
  • Closer Joe Sabbath went viral for his championship celebration, which he went into as second baseman Scott Penney tossed a fielded ground ball over to Perron at first. He was featured by NCAA Baseball, CBS Sports and numerous other media outlets.
  • The 2025 Rams join the 2016 squad and the 2005 group in terms of bringing Atlantic 10 Tournament titles back to Kingston. 
  • Rhode Island finished the 2024 season 19-28 overall and 11-13 in Atlantic 10 play. Last season, the Rams finished the year 38-22 overall and 22-8 against Atlantic 10 competition. 
  • The Rams advanced to the postseason earning the No. 3 seed at the Baton Rouge Regional at LSU. 
  • It was the first time in program history that the Rams were a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. 
  • Rhode Island's historic season came to a close after suffering losses to Dallas Baptist and Little Rock in the regional. 

WHO WILL BE IN THE ROTATION 

  • Sophomore Jake Cullen is the lone starter from Rhode Island's 2025 primary weekend rotation to return in 2026.
  • Cullen, a true freshman in 2025, earned a role as the team's Sunday starter last season starting 10 of the 16 games he appeared in. 
  • He finished the season with a 3-2 record through 53.1 innings with a 5.57 ERA.
  • Rhode Island Friday starter, Jeremy Urena, transferred to Florida International after three seasons with the Rams. 
  • Trystan Levesque was the Rams Saturday man last season. Levesque was a graduate student at Rhode Island in 2025. 
  • After graduating from Rhode Island, Levesque was the 36th overall pick in the 2025 Banana Ball Draft to the Savannah Bananas. 
  • He was a 2025 All-Atlantic 10 Second Team selection and finished his career the program leader in career starts (52), career wins (24), and second in strikeouts (310). 
  • Rhode Island head coach Raphael Cerrato indicated right-handers Connor Johnston, Braeden Perry, and Joe Sabbath could all join Cullen in the rotation this season. 
  • Johnston made six starts as a junior in 2025. 
  • Perry captured a role as the team's Sunday starter as a true freshman in 2023 and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team.
  • He finished 2023 with a 4-4 record in 14 starts.
  • Perry then missed the 2024 season due to injury before making 19 appearances with two starts in 2025. 
  • Sabbath posted a 3.95 ERA with the second-most single-season appearances in program history as the team's primary closer in 2025. 
  • His eight saves are the eighth-most in Rhody's single-season history
