Rams Fall to Jacksonville on Walk-Off

How it Happened
Rhode Island fell to Jacksonville 4-3 on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning. With bases loaded and one out, Jacksonville's Griffen Pomper grounded out to second which scored Roger Vergara to win the game for the Dolphins. This came after Jacksonville scored in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at three. 

Rhode Island struck first in the away half of the opening frame. With the based loaded Aiden Botti grounded out to second base scoring Scott Penney. The Dolphins responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Jacksonville's Derek Bermundez singled, scoring Vergara giving the Dolphins a 2-1 advantage. 

After the first inning, there would be no scoring until the sixth inning. Rhode Island knotted the game up on a Ryan Thompson single to left that scored Will Hindle. Then, two batters later, a Jacksonville wild pitch with allowed Thompson to score from third giving the Rams a 3-2 lead. In the next half inning, Jacksonville tied the game up at 3.

  • Aiden Botti finished the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Ryan Thompson went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
  • Scott Penney went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. 
  • Will Johnston completed five innings on the bump for the Rams. He allowed two earned runs and five hits while striking out seven in a no decision effort.
