Basuel Explodes to Help Rams Beat Rider

How it Happened
Caralie Basuel scored seven times to lead Rhode Island to a 14-10 victory at Rider Saturday evening as the Rams picked up their first win of the season.

Rhody (1-2) enjoyed an early offensive outburst, scoring six times in the first quarter to build a four-goal lead by the end of the period. Kate Cumins got things started with a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the match, the latter of which was a free position goal. Ashlyn Carpenter, MJ Timpanaro, Calli Dunn and Basuel all found the back of the net in the opening quarter.

Rider (1-1) got the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the URI lead in half, but Cumins' picked up the hat trick when she converted a man-up opportunity with 3:13 to go in the half. Basuel tacked on her second goal - also a man-up tally - to send Rhody into the half with an 8-4 lead.

The third quarter belong to Basuel. She scored four of Rhode Island's five goals as the Rams pushed their lead to as many as six goals on three different occasions.

Rider managed to outscore Rhody 4-1 in the final quarter, but the outcome of the match was never in doubt.
