How it Happened
Rhode Island could not get any rhythm going in a loss at La Salle, falling 59-46 to the Explorers Saturday afternoon.
Rhode Island (15-12, 6-8 Atlantic 10) opened the game with a 7-1 run, but La Salle (8-19, 3-11 A-10) responded with a 12-0 run. From there, the Explorers never relinquished the lead.
La Salle lived at the free throw in the first half, going 17-of-21 in the first 20 minutes. That allowed the Explorers to build a 39-25 by the break. Most of the damage came from Rob Dockery, who had 18 points and was 12-of-14 in the first half alone. Meanwhile Rhode Island shot just 33.3 percent from the field (9-of-27) and struggled to find any rhythm.
The lead got to as many as 18 early in the second half. Rhody managed to cut the deficit to six at 48-42 after
Barrett Loer scored on a putback. After a defensive stop, the Rams had a chance to get closer, but a
Jonah Hinton 3-pointer was off the mark. From there, La Salle was able to keep the Rams at an arm's length.
