PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rhode Island dropped its second straight match after being swept 7-0 by in-state rival Brown Saturday.
The Rams (4-3) were beaten in straight sets in five of the six singles matches.
Grace Darcy managed to win a set at No. 3 singles against Anne Yang, but Yang pulled out the victory in the tiebreaker.
Nikki Fernando and
Kajsa Helgesen battled at No. 1 doubles, coming up just short in a 7-6 loss to Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen.
"Congratulations to Brown. They came out swinging, set the tone, and we did not respond well," Rhode Island head coach
Jonas Brobeck said. "We have to learn from this and move on."
Rhode Island plays twice next weekend, hosting Le Moyne on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6:45 p.m. and then Siena the following day at 5:45 p.m. Both matches will be at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport.
