How it Happened
Kent State's Sawyer Solitaria homered in the bottom of the 13th inning to lift the Golden Flashes past Rhode Island, 8-7, on Saturday night in Ohio.
The Rams scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead.
Jayden Tolentino doubled to left field, driving in both
Ryan King and
Ryan Thompson to give Rhode Island the advantage.Â
Kent State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at 7-7. Neither team pushed across another run until Solitaria's walk-off blast in the 13th.
Rhode Island struck early, scoring in each of the first three innings.
Reece Moroney and
Scott Penney came home on a
Connor Grotyohann double in the first. In the second, Penney delivered an RBI double to right field to score Thompson. Moroney later crossed the plate in the third after Thompson reached on an error, helping the Rams build an early cushion.
