RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S - Series notes
- The Rams welcome Saint Joseph's to the Ryan Center Wednesday for the first of Rhody's three-game home stand.
- Rhode Island and St. Joe's will face off for the 77th time, and second meeting this season.
- The Rams opened Atlantic 10 play back on Dec. 3 on Hawk Hill, handing Saint Joseph's a 59-52 loss. The Hawks were without star Gabby Casey, who missed the game due to illness last time out.
- St. Joe's is 60-16 in the all-time series dating back to the 1984 season.
- Rhode Island enters Wednesday winning its last 13 straight games, including its last five consecutive at the Ryan Center.
- Rhody is 9-1 at home this season while the Hawks are 6-3 on the road.
- The Rams have won three of the last four meetings with St. Joe's.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
- Saint Joseph's has won their last three straight games, most recently beating Davidson 59-51.
- The Hawks are led by Gabby Casey, who is the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the last two straight weeks.
- Casey paces St. Joe's in scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg).
- Her 16.1 points per game rank third in the A-10.
- The Hawks also have Aleah Snead (10.7 ppg) and Rhian Stokes (10.4 ppg) averaging double figures in scoring.
VITAL IS VITAL
- Rhode Island guard Sophia Vital has been playing her best basketball in Atlantic 10 play.
- Last time out in the Ram's road win at Fordham, Vital turned in another impressive stat line, scoring nine points and handing out four assists without turning the ball over.
- She added four steals, leading a defensive effort that held Fordham to 47 points. It was the eighth time this season URI has held its opponent to fewer than 50 points.
- Vital had a strong showing in the win over the VCU-based Rams, flirting with a triple-double line of 10 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
- In the win at George Washington, she turned in her first career double-double with a season-high 19 points and a career-best 14 rebounds.
- Vital has been excelling on both ends of the floor. In the win over Duquesne, she had a career-high seven steals.
- The junior attended Tabor Academy and was an AA NEPSAC Champion.
ON WATCH
- Rhode Island women's basketball head coach Tammi Reiss has been named to the midseason 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award watch list presented by Her Hoop Stats, it was announced last week.
- Reiss is one of three Atlantic 10 coaches selected among the 10 finalists.
- This is the third season of the award, named after the legendary former Harvard head coach.
- Reiss has led the Rams to 13 straight wins, already surpassing their win total from a season ago with an 19-2 record on the year.
- Rhody is undefeated in league play, posting a 10-0 record, while collecting 26 votes in the latest AP Top 25 women's basketball Poll.
- Earlier this season, Reiss became the all-time winningest head coach in program history after defeating George Washington on Jan. 7.
- She's now up to 129 career wins after the Rams defeated Fordham on the road last time out.
