How it Happened
Rhode Island had the tying run on first with no outs in the top of the ninth, but the Rams were unable to capitalize and fell to George Washington, 8-6, in game two of the weekend series.
George Washington's Matt Bruno opened the ninth by walking Ryan Henschel and Scott Penney, putting the first two Rams aboard. The Revolutionaries then turned to the bullpen and brought in Drew Harris, who retired Rhode Island's 2-3-4 hitters to seal the win. Aidan Botti flew out, Reece Moroney struck out looking and Ryan Thompson flew out to right to end the game.
The Rams chipped away at a 6-3 deficit in the fourth. Brian Connolly lined a single into right-center to score Jack Hopko and pull Rhode Island within two. After holding the Revolutionaries scoreless in the bottom half, the Rams went to the fifth trailing 6-4. Moroney then doubled with one out in the fifth, driving in Penney and Henschel to even the score at 6-6.
That proved to be Rhode Island's final offense of the day. George Washington answered with the go ahead run and an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, which held up the remainder of the game and secured the series win for the Revolutionaries.
