Time to Dance! Rhode Island to Face Alabama In NCAA Championship

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island is heading to the dance.

URI's historic season will continue in Louisville, where the No. 11 Rams will face No. 6 Alabama in Regional 3, the Fort Worth region. The opening-round game will be played on Saturday, March 21.

Rhode Island is going to the tournament for the first time in 30 years. Rhody won a program-record 28 games while winning its second regular-season title and its first Atlantic 10 Championship title.

The team and more than 250 program supporters gathered together in the Soloviev Practice Facility to watch the selection show on ESPN Sunday night. Before the show, head coach Tammi Reiss addressed the crowd.

"This is the best group of women I have ever had the privilege to coach," Reiss said. "There is a reason we have two beautiful trophies in the room. This is a group that wanted the best chemistry and the best culture. They wanted to play for the ring, the championship. This team represents our University to the highest degree."

The winner of Rhode Island-Alabama will play to the winner of No. 3 Louisville-No. 14 Vermont on Monday, March 23.

Ticket and game information will be available on GoRhody.com when it becomes available.
